Trans and Intersex Rising Zimbabwe (TIRZ) was founded in 2017 by Q Bee Chihera Meki and Tinoashira Chukuni. TIRZ was registered on 4 May 2021.
Vision
TIRZ envisions a Zimbabwean society that treats trans-diverse and intersex people equally, and empowers trans and intersex persons to live to their full potential.
Mission
Fulfilling this vision through activism, service- provision, advocacy, and community development and empowerment.
Objectives
- Providing various forms of support to meet the needs of the sex- and gender-diverse community of Zimbabwe
- Increasing awareness, and advocating for the rights and identities of the sex- and gender-diverse community of Zimbabwe.
- Advocating for the equitable access for the sex- and gender-diverse community of Zimbabwe to socio-economic services.
Focus Areas
- Activism and sensitisation work in the health sector around the needs of trans and intersex persons.
- Developing trans and intersex leadership and entrepreneurial skills.
- Grassroots-level research on the needs of the trans and intersex communities.
- Sharing the narratives of trans and intersex persons.
- HIV-related services for the trans and intersex community.
- Fostering relationships between the various trans and intersex communities and organisations in Zimbabwe.
