2017 — Trans Support Organisation (TSO) Founded, Kenya
Trans Support (TSO) was formed as a community-based organisation (CBO) in 2017 by a group of three transgender, intersex, and gender-non-conforming (ITGNC) individuals from Western Kenya who met during the Human Rights and Advocacy Programme by ASTRAEA Lesbian Foundation for Justice through the NYARWEK Network (Nyanza Rift Valley and Western Kenya Network). TSO was founded with a focus on human rights and sexual reproductive health and rights to respond to the needs of ITGNC individuals, as well as to create visibility, increase opportunities for and enhance the well-being of these individuals in rural areas of Western Kenya. TSO was registered in November 2019.

Vision
A vibrant and radically inclusive society that supports intersecting identities, where all community members can thrive as their authentic selves, liberated from stigma, violence and oppression.
“Above all TSO consists of trans folks brought together by collective experiences and a deep desire to change the landscape so that ITGNC persons joining us may lead more dignified lives. We address scars of discrimination and first-hand experience of what it means to be invisible in our community and country. Our bodies bear testimonies to the worst that can happen to a trans person including being raped, locked in jails, beaten to a pulp by a mob and mocked everywhere. We exist to provide hope that all can be well and that being trans is not an abnormality. TSO is committed to embodying the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
