The Transhuman Project was founded in Kenya in 2022 by Nekesa Mukamba. It is a feminist tech project for intersex, trans and gender non-conforming (ITGNC) people in East Africa. The Project is headquartered in Kenya with a team working remotely across East Africa. Their aim is to create accessible opportunities and social justice initiatives for ITGNC persons in Kenya and East Africa. They have applied for registration and are still awaiting the outcome.
Vision
To create and establish resources for the East Africa intersex, trans and gender non-conforming community using technology (web resourse hub, USSD, Mobile application and in-country grassroots engagements).
Project Values and Focus
The project has 3 values and focus:
- Safety and wellbeing: The project values safety and wellbeing, tabs have been designed and curated to offer wholistic resources from legal aid, community support to mental health support. The organisation values the community’s psychological safety, data safety, physical safety and emotional wellbeing.
- Autonomy: The organisation recognises ITGNC persons’ autonomy over their sexual and reproductive health rights and identity. They value ITGNC persons’ self-determination and supports their choice/agency in all their diversity.
- Accessibility: The project is tech based to ensure accessibility for any party interested across East Africa. This ensures a right to livelihood, reduces health, social and psychological vulnerabilities and ensures that wellbeing is achieved.
