Tanzania Voice of Humanity (TVOH) was established in 22 October 2020 in response to total lack of recognition of individuals with intersex in Tanzania. It is the first organisation in Tanzania to stand for intersex people in Tanzania. It offers development programs that involve medical practitioners, educators, counsellors and law enforcement agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Country Context<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Intersex people commonly experience abuse in developing countries like Tanzania and most perpetrators are known. Likewise, individuals with intersex (DSD) experience suffer abuse at the hands of family members, at school, health services and religious institutions and community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main sources of discrimination are a lack of formal recognition for their Sex identity that leads friction with social norms. Based on self-reporting done by TVOH parents, intersex children are verbally abused by the community and burden them with social beliefs. Also intersex children and adults experience social isolation, abusive words, neglect at school and legal difficulties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Living in such a community jeopardises the welfare of intersex persons. Special training and counselling are effective ways to minimise and eradicate gender-based violence towards individuals with intersex conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vision<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A community with people with disabilities who are recognised, healthy, economically stable and well protected legally and socially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To improve the welfare of intersex people and people with disabilities, making sure they are recognised, economically empowered, protected and treated equally through empowerment, support, advocacy, awareness raising, research and participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
