{"id":4061,"date":"2009-12-10T14:24:00","date_gmt":"2009-12-10T14:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/?p=4061"},"modified":"2024-09-16T11:35:15","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T11:35:15","slug":"10-december-2009-ugandan-activist-victor-mukasa-speaks-at-the-united-nations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/10-december-2009-ugandan-activist-victor-mukasa-speaks-at-the-united-nations\/","title":{"rendered":"10 December 2009 \u2014 Ugandan Activist, Victor Mukasa, Speaks at the United Nations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On 10 December 2009, Ugandan activist, <a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/victor-mukasa\/\">Victor Mukasa<\/a>, co-founder of Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and program associate for the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLRHC) spoke at a landmark meeting of the United Nations General Assembly panel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The panel focused on ending human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity and featured speakers from Honduras, India, the Philippines, Zambia and Uganda. The audience comprised of 200 people from over 50 nations. The meeting was part of the 61<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mukasa&rsquo;s address focused on the Ugandan <em><a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/the-passing-of-the-anti-homosexuality-bill-uganda\/\">Anti-Homosexuality Law<\/a><\/em>, stating that <em>\u00ab\u00a0Lack of security, arbitrary arrests and detentions, violence, and killings of LGBT people have become the order of the day in Africa.
