{"id":2124,"date":"2010-05-30T14:24:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-30T14:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/?p=2124"},"modified":"2026-03-03T14:20:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T12:20:17","slug":"eastern-and-southern-african-trans-and-intersex-regional-exchange-programme-year-1-part-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/eastern-and-southern-african-trans-and-intersex-regional-exchange-programme-year-1-part-1\/","title":{"rendered":"May 2010 \u2014 Eastern and Southern African Trans and Intersex Regional Exchange Programme: Year 1, Part 1, Namibia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">May 2010 \u2014 Eastern and Southern African Trans and Intersex Regional Exchange Programme: Year 1, Part 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Er98BdHcN3E\"><\/a>first part of the Eastern and Southern African Trans and Intersex Regional Exchange Programme, hosted by <em><a href=\"http:\/\/genderdynamix.org.za\"><strong>Gender DynamiX (GDX)<\/strong><\/a><\/em> and Uganda&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/2008-founding-of-the-support-initiative-for-people-with-atypical-sex-development-sipd-uganda\/\"><strong><em>Support Initiative for People with Atypical Sex Development (SIPD)<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, was launched in Namibia in May 2010. It was with great excitement that the 16 activists met, and there was a very energetic buzz in the room, as participants had great expectations of the Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Invited by the University of Namibia in Windhoek, the activists were to make a presentation to the students of Professor Immaculate Mogotsi at the Multidisciplinary Research Centre as part of the Programme. The Programme also included a site visit to the organisation, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sister_Namibia\"><strong><em>Sister Namibia<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During this inaugural exchange, the group worked on the first draft of the <em>HIV &amp; Transgender Identity Position Paper<\/em>, which would be published as the &#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/HIV-Trans-position-paper-2010-HIV-Transgender-Identity-%E2%80%93-Towards-Inclusion-and-Autonomy-World-Aids-Day.pdf\">MSM\/WSW &amp; Trans Position Paper<\/a>\u201d<\/em> in 2010, and&nbsp;focusing on the inclusion and autonomy of research framed in an MSM\/WSW (men having sex with men\/women having sex with women) context.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second part of this Programme would be held in <a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/eastern-and-southern-african-trans-and-intersex-regional-exchange-programme-year-1-part-2\/\">September 2010<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Watch this video from the Programme:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Transgender African activists meet in Namibia\" width=\"1328\" height=\"996\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Er98BdHcN3E?start=2&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Video production by Robert Hamblin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 2010 \u2014 Eastern and Southern African Trans and Intersex Regional Exchange Programme: Year 1, Part 1 Thefirst part of the Eastern and Southern African Trans and Intersex Regional Exchange Programme, hosted by Gender DynamiX (GDX) and Uganda&#8217;s Support Initiative for People with Atypical Sex Development (SIPD), was launched in Namibia in May 2010.
