{"id":2222,"date":"2014-07-01T12:07:00","date_gmt":"2014-07-01T12:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/?p=2222"},"modified":"2025-08-18T16:21:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T14:21:55","slug":"declaration-on-gender-incongruence-of-childhood-gic-south-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/declaration-on-gender-incongruence-of-childhood-gic-south-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"2 June 2014 \u2014 Declaration on Gender Incongruence of Childhood (GIC), South Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The<a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Cape-Town-Declaration_JS3_UPR27_ZAF_E_Main.pdf\"> <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Cape-Town-Declaration_JS3_UPR27_ZAF_E_Main.pdf\" data-type=\"attachment\" data-id=\"744\">Cape Town Declaration on Gender Incongruence of Childhood (GIC)<\/a><\/em> was publicly released in June 2014, requesting the removal of the World Health Organization\u2019s (WHO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/standards\/classifications\/classification-of-diseases\">International Classification of Diseases (ICD)<\/a> diagnoses that pathologise gender diversity in children and youth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Declaration was issued by a working group of 40 delegates from 11 countries who met on 2 June 2014 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/transintersexhistory.africa\/2nd-trans-health-research-and-advocacy-conference-south-africa\/\">2<sup>nd<\/sup> Trans Health, Research and Advocacy Conference<\/a> in Cape Town, and was submitted to the World Professional Association for Trans Health.
