CDLC was registered on 18 September 2018. The organisation was founded by Ejiogu Franklin Chigozie, a non-binary person who led other trans persons to formulate the vision of the organisation. CDLC started as an in-house group in the year 2016, where they celebrated a pride event that had over 200 LGBTQI persons in attendance. Following this pride, the group acquired a Safe Shelter to help evacuate&nbsp;trans and non-binary persons who were in dire need of accommodation and gender-affirming treatment.
