20 November 2009 — Launch of “Trans: Transgender Life Stories from South Africa”, South Africa
On 20 November 2009, The Gay and Lesbian Archives (GALA) andديناميكس الجنسانية (GDX) launched the book, Trans: Transgender Life Stories from South Africa, in Cape Town, South Africa. It was first book of its kind on the continent.

The specific date was selected as it is the International Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR). The book launch took place in Cape Town, at the Whale Well, Iziko Museum in Cape Town, and included a performance by the famous drag queen artist, Odidiva. Around 140 people attended the launch. The number of attendees and the number of book sales exceeded the publisher’s expectations. Later in that same year, the book was launched in Johannesburg.
In April 2010, the book had a second print-run, and upon requesting the publishers for a third print-run, they indicated that it was not possible and a Kindle version became available on Amazon instead.
