2018 — Founding of Pride Sierra Leone (PSL), Sierra Leone

Founded in 2018 by Roy Robinson, Pride Sierra Leone (PSL) works with LGBTQI people in Sierra Leone and promotes and protects the human rights of this community living in Sierra Leone and in the diaspora in Europe. The organisation strives to educate and raise awareness for both LGBTQI and non LGBTQI people within society on human rights, gender, sexual diversity, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression through training, seminars, debates, campaigns, street theatre, story telling, on information sharing and dissemination. PSL advocates through strategic engagement with government officials, religious leaders and law makers to end human rights violations against African LGBTQI people, asylum seekers and refugees to achieve structural changes within the legal system. Of the 237 registered members (as at May 2026), 60 are intersex, 50 are lesbian, 45 are gay, 35 are trans, 25 are queer, and 22 are bisexual. The organisation was registered in 2020.

To work for improved health, ending violence and all forms of discrimination for the attainment of equal rights based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

Goals/Objectives

The organisation

  • advocates through strategic engagement with government officials, religious leaders and lawmakers to end human rights violations against African LGBTQI people, asylum seekers and refugees to achieve structural changes within the legal system.

Focus Areas

Pride Health Monitoring Exercise is sexual health programme that provides educational training, seminars, conferences, peer to peer training, dialogues and sensitizations on sexual reproductive health and rights issues for LGBTQI people, this project will provides referral and follow up support on sexually transmitted infections including HIV prevention, counselling and testing for LGBTQI. This project will be advocate through strategic engagement and visits to public and private health facilities, health care providers and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen to enabling policy environment in the provision of non-discriminatory services to LGBTQI people, and to ensure increased access to comprehensive treatment free from stigma and discrimination.
