]
Let’s Talk About Trans and Intersex Love. This Valentine’s Day, 2025, the Trans & Intersex History Africa (TIHA) team discusses love and joy in trans and intersex communities in Africa and the African Diaspora. As one of our founders, Liesl Theron, says during the broadcast, “our love is part of our resistance”. Celebrating joy and love within our African trans and intersex communities is a revolutionary act. It’s a testament to our resilience and our ability to cling to and manifest hope, even in the darkest of times.
During this conversation, hosted by our Victor Mukasa, he, Liesl and guests discussed the importance of acknowledging trans and intersex love and joy, how dating a trans person raises questions about one’s sexuality. Also under discussion was how trans and intersex people navigate sexual relationships before, during and after transition, and how to negotiate physical relations while experiencing gender dysphoria. Liesl and Victor were joined by guests who discussed their experiences of love, relationships and intimacy as trans and intersex people.
